Research homework

Task one: canon hx a1

(This research was carried out by looking at the cameras function, sales, user’s reviews and my own experience with it.)

Panasonic first soared in popularity among aspiring indie filmmakers because of the breakthrough DVX100, the first camera to bring genuine 24p acquisition to a reasonable price, which many aspiring filmmakers could afford. During my research I have looked at the growth in camera technology and have looked at different cameras, however mainly focusing on the CANON XH A1.

The cannon HX A1 due to my research has proven to be a very successful camera due to its great updated features and picture and audio quality.
The XH A1 is a professional handheld HDV camcorder manufactured by Canon. The form and look of the camera is though to be quiet similar to the previous Canon GL2, with the newer HDV models being slightly larger and heavier. The cameras are mostly used by independent documentaries, broadcasters and journalism. The camera also has an equally successful sister model Canon

This model (XH A1) was released in December 2008, and received the following updated features:
* It allowed people to control the acceleration/deceleration of the zoom
* had separate audio sensitivity of the two input XLR audio channels
* Also the ability to record sound from the input and external microphone.
The camera shows to have a very high level of performance and pictures quality this is the same for video and still photography, when it comes to audio, the camera has many modes in which you can record your audio sounds depending on your recording standards, The XH A1 is comes equipped with a built in electret condenser microphone with cross-layout directivity and a directional angle of approximately 90 degrees. This also has different modes, as well as a built in the microphone; The XH A1 also comes equipped with an external mic holder for added audio functionality.
In my opinion my research shows that this is a very good camera of high quality and very straight forward to se up along with all its other accessories.

1. User’s review on camera (shortened): At first glance, the XH-A1 looks a little daunting. Its size and price positions it at the top end of the prosumer market and it definitely looks the part: it is riddled with buttons and switches in every conceivable location. If this intimidates you, you should probably consider a different camcorder, as this is only the beginning. Read more

summer homework

Noriane atahy: summer holiday work notes:

Task two:

Eastenders.

During the summer holidays I have mainly focused on the famous soap, Eastenders, by watching and enjoying the show but also trying to explore and look deeply into the things that actually make the show appeal to its audience
From1985 till today this show currently ranks as one of the most watched shows in the United Kingdom. EastEnders storylines examine the domestic and professional lives of the people who live and work in the fictional London Borough of Walford in the East End of London.
The genre consists of vary basic conventions. Fist of locations in soaps are nothing out of the ordinary they are specifically chosen to relate to everyday people, and mostly located on common roads, for example, Watford is a very common well known area, this helps viewers gain sum kind of connection with the character and feel more involved in the lines.
The characters are obviously the biggest and main part of any film or TV show. The characters in Eastenders, are also everyday people struggling to live life one day at a time always faced with trials, and past mistakes, as any person in real life would.
The characters vary from rebellious teenagers to stress and frustrated parents, to even people dealing with mental issues. So overall the characters are not far from anyone out here in the real world.

Lighting: in eastenders I have realized that the lighting is always used brightly to focus on characters who we as an audience believe to be “the good guys” to exaggerate the character and their views, however this is different with the other character thought of as the dark one, this also to reflect their and point of views.
On the streets you realizes that the lighting is used to create different times of day effectively, this also due to the fact that this show is not filmed in closed set but actually on a real road which helps making the stories, characters location and story line more realistic

Camera techniques:

The show consists of various basic camera techniques, such as camera angles and work like, long shots point of view shots, and many others. These are used so that location or actions or anything can be portrayed in a particular way fro example.
In one of the episodes the audience viewed one character known as “Stacey” start come to terms with a mental inherited by her mother in this episodes many point of view shots are used, this is done so that the audience doe look at Stacey and wonder what is going through, it allows the audience to almost be in her shoes and see things from her perspective. However other can make the audience feel like they are watching from afar. This is done through the use of extreme long shots giving audience the sight of people appearing in a small frame whilst all buildings and surroundings appear.

Sound and props used: the props used in the series are things which would be used in the everyday world like basic kitchen appliances, and sofas and living room furniture, nothing used in this drama looks out of place. As for music, it is not a big element in series apart from the opening and closing theme tune. Once again this done to keep everything realistic.
Since the drama has no music through scenes dialogue and sound becomes a critical part to get right. Which is why everything

Task two:

City of god is a 2002 Brazilian crime drama film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, released in its home country in 2002 and worldwide in 2003, based around the number and increase of organized crime in Rio de Janeiro suburb of Cidade de Deus, between the end of the '60s and the beginning of the '80s, with the closure of the film depicting the war between the drug dealer Li'l Zé and criminal Knockout Ned.

A thrilling exciting story based on real past events:
What does this do? - This allows the audience to feel more emotion and gain more of it simply due to the fact that it’s a true story.
The film uses characters that we here today would find very unusually and out of the norm, however they fit in with their surroundings and culture, meaning they do not look out of place as everyone in the film comes from the same violent society

In this film the excessive amount of violence is very obvious so, in this film typical prop consists of guns and any other kind of weapon, once again done to portray the kind of society they lived in as those things were thought as kind of ok.
Houses were very small, common and looked the same.
This is a famous film for the way everything is realistically portrayed; one reason for this I think is due to the fact that there are no restricted sets most of the film is watched with characters being outdoors, helping lighting, and realistic surroundings.
Since the film is set in Portugal the film is watched in Portugal, however with English subtitles, but the raw emotion and straight forward directing helps the film still be very easy to understand.

I also choose to take notes on this film because of the clever way in witch it starts with the end, and then a flashback to the past with the main character rocket telling us his story. The
