Sound of school bell.

A camera pan of 5 kids sitting at their desks looking extremely bored, showing their individual characters through various actions. Basketball player playing with his basketball, Goth listening to loud music, class clown lazing around bothering others and geek reading a book and gets a paper cut

MARIA
Lightly shaking her hand due to paper cut sting
Ouch

Camera carries on panning until BIANCA the schools most popular and self obsessed girl is in the frame. She looks frustrated and wriggles until she leaves her seat.
Various shots of her leaving classroom and going to the toilet. She gets to the toilet heads straight to the sink and runs her fingers through her hair. She then looks in the mirror and sees a black figure of a person dressed in black behind her. She looks back and sees none their. She slams all of the cubicle doors to reassure her that none is there she goes back to the mirror. Washes her face.

Inside the detention room.

MARCUS
Where is BIANCA she’s been in those toilets fro how long!

BOB
You know girls always in that silly mirror

MARCUS
Putting his ball down on the table
I think someone should go check on her

BOB
Am not going anywhere and my girl over there (indicating MARIA)
Is too busy reading that rubbish. Guess that leaves you big guy (pointing at the Goth-JASON)

Jason looks around to make sure their talking to him and waits a while before leaving his seat. He leaves tucking his chair in a very aggressive manner.

Outside classroom, in the corridors.

JASON
(Under his breath)
Stupid idiots who do they think they are, they can’t tell me what to do, imbeciles

Jason carries on walking kicking a ball of paper around

Inside the toilets

BIANCA is washing her face and looks up as she does so she begins to cough and beings to throw up blood whilst seeing figure in the mirror.
BIANCA
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhg

She begins to stager out of the bathroom trying to hold on to walls leaving blood marks behind her.

Inside the detention room

BOB is looking at Marcus in a weird way as if he has something to say

BOB
So when’s the big game

MARCUS
January

BOB
Be sure not to break a leg or something or bore yourself to death in this shithole

Inside the corridors

BIANCA is still trying to get to the class room having trouble breathing. We see figure behind her watching

Inside the detention room

BOB carries on disturbing others

BOB
What you reading their?

MARIA looks at him and quickly turns her attention back to her book

BOB
Ok then not talking are you that’s fine but when you -

BIANCA slams the door open and burst into the room looking in very bad shape whilst Maria screams

MARRIA

BIANCA collapses unto he ground the rest of them run to her limp lifeless body scared and filled with terror

MARCUS
Oh shit someone get help do something

MARIA
What happened!?

MARCUS
How the hell should I know just do something!

BOB runs out of the classroom to find help and realises that no one is their. The corridors are dark and completely empty. MARIA and MARCUS shout out for help and also leave the room.

MARCUS
(In panic)
Where is everybody

Bob looks at them shaking his head in disbelief

BOB
There all gone there’s no one here.

MARCUS
Well don’t just stand there, you too tries open the doors.

Marcus rushes to the doors and desperately trying to open them with no success he shouts

MARCUS
Well come on then!

Maria and bob run to the doors and help him to try and open them

MARIA
There are 3 other doors on this building we could try

MARCUS
Ok lets bob lets go try those ones. You stay with her

Marcus and bob run across to the other side of the building and try their hardest to get the doors open.

BOB
This is stupid let’s just break these windows

Marcus runs back to the corridor where he left his basket ball and back to the door where bob is standing. He begins to aim and throws the ball with all his strength at the window. A crack appears

BOB
Oh yes!

Marcuse beings to aim again however this time the shutters of the window begin to come down from the outside of the doors making it impossible to leave

MARCUS
Oh shit, if these carry on were never leaving, run to the other ones quick

Bob and Marcus run to their other possible escapes and see that the doors are not only locked but have the shutters down from the inside. Same for all the windows.

BOB
Dam! What is this how the hell are we leaving this place.(shaky voice) I cant die in this pace I swear down, there is something fucking fishy going on her I am telling you now I cant die in this stupid-

MARCUS

Inside the classroom.

Maria is sitting beside BIANCA’S body looking traumatized with tears streaming down her face. The boys walk in

MARIA
So

MARCUS
I will find a way

BOB
SO! WE ARE STUCK! We are not coming out and just like her we are going to die her in SCHOOL!

MARIA
What about the other doors-

BOB
Well they are locked too! Shutters and all. But I guess you smarty pants did not think that through did you!

MARCUS

The boys begin to argue and take their frustrations out on each other

BOB
And so what! DO you think you can tell me what to do boss me around I don’t think so you shut the fuck up and-

MARIA (in her frustration also shouts)
Be quiet both of you! Look at you. We are stuck I a room with a body and you’re arguing over this crap.

Marcus walks over to Bianca. He picks up her hand and shakes his head releasing a deep sight and dropping her hand back down.

MARCUS
She’s dead

MARIA screams with her hands over her mouth and goes to her seat. Bob stops speaking and just looks at the other two’s reaction, and then putting his head down.

Marcus walks around the room. The room is completely silent until Marcus bangs a desk

MARCUS
Right I want all you too to search this room from head to toe for something to help us get out of here. I will try doing the same or else it looks like were stuck in here.

They all rummage the classroom for some sort of key or helpful object. However everything is empty. They carry on Maria finds a big book (a diary).
She looks around at the two still looking around the room

MARIA
I found something
BOB
What? a book keep your reading to yourself we are trying to get out
MARCUS snatches the book and opens it reading the first page as he reads his faces changes and becomes all shambled.

MARIA
What’s wrong! What is it?

BOB
What’s in the book!

MARCUS
It’s written

MARIA
WHAT IS

MARCUS
Everything which has happened Bianca, us its been written.

In disbelieve Maria and bob take the book and read on.

BOB
Wow.
And he moves away from the book.

MARIA
Am turning the page

BOB
Are you sure you want to do that

Marcus looks and nods at her
MARIA reads the book in her head leaving the other two in suspense. She looks at them

MARIA
Were all going to die? She picks up the book again and reads the end they should do what they need to stay alive however I implore them to do the opposite

BOB
Fuck what does that even mean. Am not fuking dying here. What does that mean. Tell me! He shouts at maria

MARIA
HEAD OWN

BOB
But you know everything else don’t you!

MARIA
The book talks about our deaths, however they all occur outside this room.

Drama films research:

Drama films have been so successful over the years; they were even some of the first movies ever made, I believe it’s due to their reality aspect as it deals with real life problems and consequences those peoples decisions will cause them later on in life. This is also because some of the most successful films are based on real life, to keep that reality streak going.
I have researched many films and looked at many trailers based upon the drama genre and have found that most drama films are not like typical romances were someone is out of research. This is because as mentioned before this genre is able to adapt man other genres in within in however still keeping its title of a drama film. Also from simply watching some trailers, I have found out that they make you feel some sort of sincere emotion, and this is simply because people can relate which is something which I will keep in mind when we decide our final story to make it interesting but yet realistic.

Target audiences for these kinds of films I believe mostly depends on the main characters age, again it’s a question of how well the audience can interact because that’s what makes a good film.
For example seven pounds. I would say probably targets an audience of middle class working people, or mostly people around the ages of 16- 40. I would say this age because of the themes and contents of the film and I think having this age group would allow everyone to understand and gain some sort of something from.
Another example would be the film milk. I would say the target audience would mostly be either homosexuals as well as heterosexuals around the ages of again 17 and over. Simply because the film milk explores the life of Harvey Milk, who was a gay activist and Politian fighting for the righst of gay men. And this audience would be personaly ideal because it would educate hetrosexual people and give them an insight on the lives of others. And it would be ideal for homosexuals because most films don’t realy ever present being gay as something which is ok, and this would be something which they could relate to without having to feel ashamed. Which I belive makes this a very good film.
But over all I think drams can appeal and be targeted to any audience just depending on the contents and story of the protagonist.

Drama films always tend to have some sort of classical if not slow soothing music, in comparisn to the music of a horrror or comedy film. We also tend to be welcomed to the film with the main protagonist or proagonits who are mostly chracters with no power over their surroundings. We are also greeted by their surrounding a lot of the time this is present in persuit of happines and memoires of a gaisha. I chose these two because they both contain the same contents, such as voiceovers. This is because drama films often make use attached to the character and feel some sor of symapthy towards theme. So the voice overs hep use get to know them even bofore the film starts.

Directors such as Gabriele Muccino are famouse for there interesting style of drama. Alrhough he was not always taken seriously films such as persuit of happiness and seven pounds have earned him a plcae on the map.
Gus Green Van Sant, Jr. Is also famous for his interpretation of Harvey Milks life and is responsisble for other success full films.
However on regareds to actors some actors are chosen to strat in drama films because they fit this certain type of genre, the most omon ones are
Will smith
Beyonce
Nicole kidman
Jenifer aniston
Cameron diaz who has also started animation films and many more.

The legend of Urashima Tarō

The legend of Urashima Tarō (浦島太郎?) is a Japanese legend about a fisherman who rescues a turtle and is rewarded for this with a visit to the Palace of the Dragon God (or Ryūgū-jō) under the sea.
One fine day a young fisherman named Urashima Tarō was fishing when he noticed a small turtle being tormented by some children. Tarō saved it and let it go back to the sea. The day after a huge turtle approached him and told him that the small turtle he had saved was the daughter of the Emperor of the Sea, who wanted to see him to thank him. The turtle magically gave Tarō gills and brought him to the bottom of the sea, to the Palace of the Dragon God (Ryūgū-jō). There he met the Emperor and the small turtle, who was now a lovely princess, Otohime.
Urashima Tarō illustration by Edmund Dulac
Tarō stayed there with her for a few days, then he was caught by the desire to go back to his village and see his aging mother, so he asked her permission to leave. The princess said she was sorry to see him go, but wished him well and gave him a mysterious box which she told him never to open, for whatever reason. Tarō grabbed the box, jumped on the back of the same turtle that had brought him to the Palace, and soon was home.
But everything had changed. His home was gone, his mother had vanished, the people he knew were nowhere to be seen. He asked if anybody knew a man called Urashima Tarō. They answered that they had heard someone of that name had vanished at sea long ago. He discovered that 300 years had passed since the day he had left for the bottom of the sea. Struck by grief, he absent-mindedly opened the box the princess had given him. Out of it came a cloud of white smoke. He suddenly aged, his beard grew long and white, and his back bent. He was now a very old man. And from the sea came the sad, sweet voice of the princess: "I told you not to open that box. In it was your old age ..."
As always with folklore, there are many different versions of this extremely famous story. In one, for example, after he turned into an old man he took the body of a crane, in another he ate a magic pill that gave him the ability to breathe underwater. In another version, he is swept away by a storm before he can rescue the turtle. Also, there is a version in which he dies in the process of aging (his body turns into dust), as no one can live 300 years.

The Twelve Dancing Princesses

The Twelve Dancing Princesses or The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes or The Shoes that were Danced to Pieces is a German fairy tale originally published by the Brothers Grimm
Twelve princesses slept in twelve beds in the same room; every night their doors were securely locked, but in the morning their shoes were found to be worn through as if they had been dancing all night.
The king, perplexed, promised his kingdom and a daughter to any man who could discover the princesses' secret within three days and three nights, but those who failed within the set time limit would be put to death.
An old soldier returned from war came to the king's call after several princes had failed in the endeavour to discover the princesses' secret. Whilst traveling through a wood he came upon an old woman, who gave him an invisibility cloak and told him not to eat or drink anything given to him by one of the princesses who would come to him in the evening, and to pretend to be fast asleep after the princess left.
The soldier was well received at the palace just as the others had been and indeed, in the evening, the eldest princess came to his chamber and offered him a cup of wine. The soldier, remembering the old woman's advice, threw it away secretly and began to snore very loudly as if asleep.
The princesses, sure that the soldier was asleep, dressed themselves in fine clothes and escaped from their room by a trap door in the floor. The soldier, seeing this, donned his invisibility cloak and followed them down. He trod on the gown of the youngest princess, whose cry to her sisters that all was not right was rebuffed by the eldest. The passageway led them to three groves of trees; the first having leaves of silver, the second of gold, and the third of diamonds. The soldier, wishing for a token, broke off a twig as evidence. They walked on until they came upon a great lake. Twelve boats with twelve princes in them were waiting. Each princess went into one, and the soldier stepped into the same boat as the youngest. The young prince in the boat rowed slowly, unaware that the soldier was causing the boat to be heavy. The youngest princess complained that the prince was not rowing fast enough, not knowing the soldier was in the boat. On the other side of the lake was a castle, into which all the princesses went and danced the night away.
The princesses danced until their shoes were worn through and they were obliged to leave. This strange adventure went on the second and third nights, and everything happened just as before, except that on the third night the soldier carried away a golden cup as a token of where he had been. When it came time for him to declare the princesses' secret, he went before the king with the three branches and the golden cup, and told the king all he had seen. The princesses saw there was no use to deny the truth, and confessed. The soldier chose the eldest princess as his bride for he was not a very young man, and was made the king's heir.

fairy tale adaptation/brief story line of film

Fairy tale adaptation:

To gain inspiration for a film I have read and researched many different fairy tales from around the world. Many have taken my fancy and have had good themes to build upon. In the end I decided to base my film on the themes present in the true bride, also know as the true sweetheart, which is a German fairy tales collected by the brothers Grimm as a tale in 1986.

The true bride: plot

The story is about a girl living wit her stepmother who constantly commands her to fulfil impossible tasks for example emptying out a whole pond with a spoon in one night. However all is not bad as every time she is asks to do these kinds of things she meets an old magical woman who does them for her while the young girl sleeps and wakes up in the morning with her chore completed, with the old woman nowhere to be seen.
One day the young girl’s stepmother ordered her to build a castle on a rocky valley promising to inspect every inch of it when complete.
As usual the old woman had her sleep in the shade and removed all the rocks from the valley and built the castle on the smooth ground.
When the stepmother came to inspect it a door fell on her killing her, and leaving the castle to the young girl.
The girl lived in the castle alone. It was filled with riches, and stories of her beauty and wealth spread. Many wooers came to her trying to marry her At last; a king's son won her heart. He went to get his father's consent. She kissed him, told him not to let anyone else kiss him on that cheek, and sat under a lime tree to await him. On the fourth day without his return, she packed up three dresses, embroidered with suns, moons, and stars, and set out to seek him. She was unable to find him, whoever she asked, and finally took a job as a cowherd and buried her jewels and dresses under a rock. She made a pet of a little calf and sang to it of her being abandoned. After a few years she heard that a kings daughter was to marry and that that the groom was her prince. She sang to her calf as the prince rode by, and he looked at her, but he did not remember her. When three days' festivities were held to celebrate the marriage, she dressed herself in her gown with suns and went to the first ball. She so enchanted the prince that he forgot his new bride. The second night, she wore the gown with moons and enchanted him again; she had to promise to come the third night to get away. The third night, she wore the gown with stars, and when she kissed him, he remembered her. They went back to her castle and married there.

Adaptation

From the different themes I was able to collect from the fairytale I researched I have come up with my own adaptation of the fairytale.

Present themes:

Love
Lonelyness
Hate
Hope
Jealousy
Decipt

My adaptation

My story is based on the life a girl called jade I have chosen this name because it is a rare
But yet also precious jewel. The theme of loneliness starts in her life as she lives in a broken family due to her father leaving. His departure was triggered by his unfaithfulness’ and violent behavior towards her mother.
Ever since his departure Maxine is not the same and begins to take drugs and abuse jade, by making her do everything and sometimes beating her with any valid reasons.
Jade has a friend which she can confide in, but however that’s all she can do.
Although living under these conditions at the age of 16 she realizes that her mother needs her regardless and sticks around to look after her, however sadly on jades 22nd birthday her mother dies of drug abuse. This becomes pain for her as well as a sense of relief. She now lives alone in her mother’s house.
As present in many love films she eventually meets a who moves in near her.
After about two years of knowing each other they plan to get married. (This is where the film begins, however her past will be shown through flashbacks.)
After getting married right after the ceremony the groom sadly gets run over causing him to become hospitalized.
Due to the accident the groom doesn’t remember anyone or anything (amnesia)
Not even his wife. The groom however was hospitalized for or so long that jade was forced to try and forget as she was made to believe that he was most likely to die.
Not remembering anything her groom starts over and is planning to go and marry someone else and start a family. When jade hears of his recovering she’s more than ecstatic and is on a quest to try win back her husband by making him remember her or making him fall in love with her again.

Fairy tale research:

Rumpelstiltskin

is a character in a fairy tale of the same name that originated in Germany (where he is known as Rumpelstilzchen). The tale was collected by the Brothers Grimm, who first published it in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales.

Plot synopsis
In order to make himself appear more important, a miller/commoner lied to the king that his daughter could spin straw into gold. The king called for the girl, shut her in a tower room with straw and a spinning wheel, and demanded that she spin the straw into gold by morning, for three nights, or be executed. She had given up all hope, when a dwarfish creature appeared in the room and spun straw into gold for her in return for her necklace; then again the following night for her ring. On the third night, when she had nothing with which to reward him, the strange creature spun straw into gold for a promise that the girl's first-born child would become his.
The king was so impressed that he married the miller's daughter, but when their first child was born, the dwarf returned to claim his payment: "Now give me what you promised". The queen was frightened and offered him all the wealth she had if she could keep the child. The dwarf refused but finally agreed to give up his claim to the child if the queen could guess his name in three days. At first she failed, but before the final night, her messenger discovered the dwarf's remote mountain cottage and, unseen, overhears the dwarf hopping about his fire and singing. While there are many variations in this song, the 1886 translation by Lucy Crane reads:
"To-day do I bake, to-morrow I brew,
The day after that the queen's child comes in;
And oh! I am glad that nobody knew
That the name I am called is Rumpelstiltskin!"[1]
When the dwarf came to the queen on the third day and she revealed his name, Rumpelstiltskin lost his bargain. In the 1812 edition of the Brothers Grimm tales, Rumpelstiltskin then "ran away angrily, and never came back". The ending was revised in a final 1857 edition to a more gruesome version where Rumpelstiltskin "in his rage drove his right foot so far into the ground that it sank in up to his waist; then in a passion he seized the left foot with both hands and tore himself in two." Other versions have Rumpelstiltskin driving his right foot so far into the ground that he creates a chasm and falls into it, never to be seen again. In the oral version originally collected by the brothers Grimm, Rumpelstiltskin flies out of the window on a cooking ladle (Heidi Anne Heiner).
The name is originally from Germany and literally means"little rattle stilt".

Premlinary task evaluation (continuation.)

Question4.

When editing I had to keep in into account that the film could not be too long. Whilst editing I realised ht some of my shoots went on for slightly too long. I was then told to keep each shot simple and only get let the audience see the main focus of each shot. For example in some of my shots, a small briefcase was the main focus and I found out that to keep my shots interesting I should just show scene with the briefcase on full show, and not wait until it gradually comes up in the frame. Also had to keep in mind that it was our first filming task and that I should keep things simple and to the point.

Question6:

(Technical skills and production)

On a technical aspect I have first of all learnt how to use a camera affectively. I have also learnt how to use a new computer editing software adobe premier pro. While using this software I have learned lots of different ways of editing which will help me in further tasks, such as important tools and shortcuts to making the editing process easier.

Question 7

While editing the hardest decisions made would have to be, when me and Mathew had to decide what takes we were going and not going to keep. However our continuity sheets helped us to choose and collect our best shots, without having to go through the whole tape various times.
The short film was completed by me, during lessons. It didn’t take long because I was sure of what I was doing and understood how to use the tools on the software. We had problems with sound as it was not recorded on the tape. Next time I would firstly make sure to do a sound check, and ask more about the tools and features on the software to make the outcome even better.

filmming task evaluation.

• Mini filming evaluation:

In this lesson we were asked to get into groups with people we hadn’t worked with before and film as simple sequence of some one walking being watched without knowing so.
My group consisted of, Rachel, and Ezma.
Our filming took place inside a building and outside, our media classroom.
Overall I believe we worked well as a group and that our filming went quiet well. However we did come across a few problems. For example locations. For some reason everyone thought there were restrictions as to where we were able to film, so everyone in the class, kind of filmed in the same are. This was hard for everyone due to the noise from other groups, and sometimes people accidently walking in our frames. The location was not only problems because it was crowded by the class but also because it is quiet a busy area and many people walk through that way to get to their classes.
Time was also a problem because we only had around 35 minutes to film, their w ere things that we weren’t able to complete. I think if we had more time everyone, most importantly my group would have completed everything we need to.

Over all I think our group worked well together. This is because we split all the jobs equally so all our preplanning and actual filming went quiet smoothly even though we weren’t able to complete everything. For example, whenever Rachel was shooting a shot I was not present in I would start looking for our next location, and filling out our continuity sheet, and get the clapper board ready for our next shoot. This would be the same whenever Ezama was not involved in a shot.

Overall I think that our task was very successful because although it was done in a short time we planned what were where going to shoot, and how through the use of story boarding. I think it was also successful because of the new skills we had developed while filming our previous tasks, we learnt from our mistakes, so this task was easier.
I think that this was also the main objective of the lesson, to see what we had learnt and how we could apply it, and also to see what we were able to do when put on the spot, as we had no notice, so everything had to be done quickly. This helped us show how creative we could be under pressure.

filmaking: how and why is it possible for almost nyone to become a filmaker today.

Filmmaking today:

The once respected and highly portrayed art of filmmaking has changed dramatically over the years. This is due to the amount of various amateur filmmakers being recognised and becoming the original writers of some of our most successful films today.

Thirty years ago amateur film makers would rarely move up in this industry it was almost impossible to make a successful film with the available facilities.
However nowadays, almost anyone can become a film making this is due to the affordability of things; anyone has access to quality cameras and other essential equipment at reasonable prices and the vast accessibility to them.
Although filmmaking will always be known as filmmaking, the difference between the process of big companies and armatures is quiet vast.
Big companies will mostly pay someone to come up with a story line, which usually comes from a book, play r simply another film, a script will then be written by writer and pitched to company directors and producers. If the idea is desired by producers agree to produce and fund money towards the film.
Storyboards and drafts of the film are then, created. The film may go through several screenings until its general release, however now that the film has been released whatever opinions or feedback the film will receive from its general public, is useless to the big film companies as the film has already been released and they can do nothing about it, which is one of the greatest difference between, that process and the process of a typical mature film maker.
As usual it would start with a basic concept/ story and then build upon that, they then write their scripts and storyboards, at this stage there is more freedom as an amateur filmmaker everything tends to be done by you kind of like a one man show, so whatever you say goes. You probably then recruit your cast, as independent film makers money is really something which needs to be kept in control so this can be done by asking friends to do it, or sometimes informing small acting agencies and asking if they have any actors interested in starring in your films, as many people are willing to, due to how far the film is capable of going.
When you have completed your film or parts of it most independent filmmakers post them on YouTube, or other sites I have researched like meatacafe .com an independent filmmaker site. This way they can gain comments which act as vital feedback from viewers without making their film go through expensive screenings. They can then go back and make any necessary changes to their films. They sometimes get recognised by big companies who fund money and reproduce and release on a larger scale.

Digital technology has proven to become a revolution in filmmaking saving time and money to filmmakers al over the world. It allows people to film whatever shots they wants in desired order and then replace them in the order they want through the editing process. The internet has also has many benefits, it has allowed many of the famous people to day to advertise themselves and their talents, and be recognised thanks to the sites it provides.

evaluation 1

Preliminary Exercise - evaluation

Question 1:

For this task I worked with Mathew. Our original aim for the pre production was to meet up during the weekend so we could share our ideas, and come up with a storyline, script and decide on which of our cast member’s would be most suitable for each role. However we did not get the chance to actually do this, so we decided to split up and each come up with preproduction ideas, and then later compare notes. Due to the fact that we agreed on a story line we each already had a foundation to build on, so the single preproduction wasn’t very difficult. In the end we both had the same Ideas and concepts so we just took out the best bits of each of our work and put it together. During the actual production we split the tasks so Mathew was behind the camera shooting, and I was taking care of the continuity sheet and the clapper board this was to prevent lack of continuity within our scene and so we could be able to identify each scene when editing. As much as we tried to organised our time, we spent most of our shooting time staring in another groups short film, so we had to organise another time to meet up and complete our work in our own time. This was completed the next day during a free period. We also had to try and find another cast member, as our lead cast member wasn’t able to make it to the shooting. In the end we were able to deal with this and went to shoot with Rachel as our new lead cast member. I would have to say that this was the one and biggest issue we faced on the regards of time management. As a whole it was a very enjoyable experience which I am sure I have learned a lot from, I would say that our strength were mostly present during the preproduction process as we were very clear on what it is we were aiming to do however during the production time management was out biggest weakness, which is something I have learned to be able to be in control of for future tasks. The main difference which would be present next time, I have to be me and my partner or group managing our time appropriately, to prevent having to stay behind.

Question 2:
We started of our sequence with a basic story line. The story of some one walking into a door and sitting g sown on a chair (dialogue had to be present). We did this first because it seemed like the natural thing to do so we could build on that. We secondly came up with a story board so that everyone in my production team would be clear and understand the order of the sequence, this also helped us to plan the kind of shots would work best for each shot. There were many different camera angles and shots in our short film, which in my opinion worked well with whatever it was we were trying to portray within a shot this was aid to our story board. We then went on to writing our script we didn’t know which one to do first out of the story board and script but we figured the script should be second that way we could just fit the desired dialogue in the storyboard box of our choice. This worked well because it helped us to know what characters were going to say and when extremely quickly. Mathew then wrote up shooting schedule, this was done for our production team to be very clear on where we were going to be shooting, and the things we were going to need. This helped Mathew to remember the sweets we needed in some of our shots. We then ready to shoot but before we did that we had a lesson on how to set up the cameras and on sound. We learned how to use boom poles and there purposes. We did not use these because we did not find them necessary, as all our shots took place indoors.

Question3:
For this task we used the schools cannon HX A1 cameras, Very sophisticated digital cameras. We used these both to shoot and pick up sound/dialogue in our scenes, as I mentioned before we did not use a boom pole. From using these cameras I have learned the way which digital picture has helped the film industry and will help us to edit our short films, as due to digital technology the filming and editing process have been made easier and require less time. I have learned that during my editing process I will be able to pick out what ever scene it is that I want and place it wherever. Whereas before the process was longer because I would have had to film a role of film and then start again due to the restrictions I would have had in the editing process.

Question 4:
When planning we had to keep in mind that we had restrictions and tried our hardest to make the story simple yet interesting, and not to over the top, during this planning process we also had to consider our cast for example, although they were playing roles for us they still had to feel comfortable which is why we chose for them not to have to wear a specific kind of clothing. We also tried our hardest to stick to our original planning, and not make too many changes. When planning we also had to keep in mind how our camera shots would complement the composition of our frames. (Trying to keep the rule of thirds in mind) during the actual shooting process, we had to make sure that the scene flowed and had constant continuity through out each shot, we done thirds bye noting down everyone in the shot’s positioning and current action and making sure they stayed that way until they were told not to. This was very hard at times but was successful due to our continuity sheet.

Question 5:----------

Question6:
I think this task has taught me things which will not only help me in my exams but also, through what ever career paths I choose to take on. I have learned, that time waits for no one and needs to be managed carefully in order to get things done. I have also learned about the importance of communication. This was vital as it was the only way to get Ideas across and point out things which weren’t done correctly. As well as communication you also need to be able to compromise, because it may help your work to become the best it can be. In regards to organisation, it’s the overall key to everything going to plan. I have also learnt a lot, in a technical aspect, I have learned about sound and how to set up a camera and change its levels and functions to create certain effects.

Research homework

Task one: canon hx a1

(This research was carried out by looking at the cameras function, sales, user’s reviews and my own experience with it.)

Panasonic first soared in popularity among aspiring indie filmmakers because of the breakthrough DVX100, the first camera to bring genuine 24p acquisition to a reasonable price, which many aspiring filmmakers could afford. During my research I have looked at the growth in camera technology and have looked at different cameras, however mainly focusing on the CANON XH A1.

The cannon HX A1 due to my research has proven to be a very successful camera due to its great updated features and picture and audio quality.
The XH A1 is a professional handheld HDV camcorder manufactured by Canon. The form and look of the camera is though to be quiet similar to the previous Canon GL2, with the newer HDV models being slightly larger and heavier. The cameras are mostly used by independent documentaries, broadcasters and journalism. The camera also has an equally successful sister model Canon

This model (XH A1) was released in December 2008, and received the following updated features:
* It allowed people to control the acceleration/deceleration of the zoom
* had separate audio sensitivity of the two input XLR audio channels
* Also the ability to record sound from the input and external microphone.
The camera shows to have a very high level of performance and pictures quality this is the same for video and still photography, when it comes to audio, the camera has many modes in which you can record your audio sounds depending on your recording standards, The XH A1 is comes equipped with a built in electret condenser microphone with cross-layout directivity and a directional angle of approximately 90 degrees. This also has different modes, as well as a built in the microphone; The XH A1 also comes equipped with an external mic holder for added audio functionality.
In my opinion my research shows that this is a very good camera of high quality and very straight forward to se up along with all its other accessories.

1. User’s review on camera (shortened): At first glance, the XH-A1 looks a little daunting. Its size and price positions it at the top end of the prosumer market and it definitely looks the part: it is riddled with buttons and switches in every conceivable location. If this intimidates you, you should probably consider a different camcorder, as this is only the beginning. Read more

summer homework

Noriane atahy: summer holiday work notes:

Task two:

Eastenders.

During the summer holidays I have mainly focused on the famous soap, Eastenders, by watching and enjoying the show but also trying to explore and look deeply into the things that actually make the show appeal to its audience
From1985 till today this show currently ranks as one of the most watched shows in the United Kingdom. EastEnders storylines examine the domestic and professional lives of the people who live and work in the fictional London Borough of Walford in the East End of London.
The genre consists of vary basic conventions. Fist of locations in soaps are nothing out of the ordinary they are specifically chosen to relate to everyday people, and mostly located on common roads, for example, Watford is a very common well known area, this helps viewers gain sum kind of connection with the character and feel more involved in the lines.
The characters are obviously the biggest and main part of any film or TV show. The characters in Eastenders, are also everyday people struggling to live life one day at a time always faced with trials, and past mistakes, as any person in real life would.
The characters vary from rebellious teenagers to stress and frustrated parents, to even people dealing with mental issues. So overall the characters are not far from anyone out here in the real world.

Lighting: in eastenders I have realized that the lighting is always used brightly to focus on characters who we as an audience believe to be “the good guys” to exaggerate the character and their views, however this is different with the other character thought of as the dark one, this also to reflect their and point of views.
On the streets you realizes that the lighting is used to create different times of day effectively, this also due to the fact that this show is not filmed in closed set but actually on a real road which helps making the stories, characters location and story line more realistic

Camera techniques:

The show consists of various basic camera techniques, such as camera angles and work like, long shots point of view shots, and many others. These are used so that location or actions or anything can be portrayed in a particular way fro example.
In one of the episodes the audience viewed one character known as “Stacey” start come to terms with a mental inherited by her mother in this episodes many point of view shots are used, this is done so that the audience doe look at Stacey and wonder what is going through, it allows the audience to almost be in her shoes and see things from her perspective. However other can make the audience feel like they are watching from afar. This is done through the use of extreme long shots giving audience the sight of people appearing in a small frame whilst all buildings and surroundings appear.

Sound and props used: the props used in the series are things which would be used in the everyday world like basic kitchen appliances, and sofas and living room furniture, nothing used in this drama looks out of place. As for music, it is not a big element in series apart from the opening and closing theme tune. Once again this done to keep everything realistic.
Since the drama has no music through scenes dialogue and sound becomes a critical part to get right. Which is why everything

Task two:

City of god is a 2002 Brazilian crime drama film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, released in its home country in 2002 and worldwide in 2003, based around the number and increase of organized crime in Rio de Janeiro suburb of Cidade de Deus, between the end of the '60s and the beginning of the '80s, with the closure of the film depicting the war between the drug dealer Li'l Zé and criminal Knockout Ned.

A thrilling exciting story based on real past events:
What does this do? - This allows the audience to feel more emotion and gain more of it simply due to the fact that it’s a true story.
The film uses characters that we here today would find very unusually and out of the norm, however they fit in with their surroundings and culture, meaning they do not look out of place as everyone in the film comes from the same violent society

In this film the excessive amount of violence is very obvious so, in this film typical prop consists of guns and any other kind of weapon, once again done to portray the kind of society they lived in as those things were thought as kind of ok.
Houses were very small, common and looked the same.
This is a famous film for the way everything is realistically portrayed; one reason for this I think is due to the fact that there are no restricted sets most of the film is watched with characters being outdoors, helping lighting, and realistic surroundings.
Since the film is set in Portugal the film is watched in Portugal, however with English subtitles, but the raw emotion and straight forward directing helps the film still be very easy to understand.

I also choose to take notes on this film because of the clever way in witch it starts with the end, and then a flashback to the past with the main character rocket telling us his story. The
