opening sequence full script

Sound of school bell.

A camera pan of 5 kids sitting at their desks looking extremely bored, showing their individual characters through various actions. Basketball player playing with his basketball, Goth listening to loud music, class clown lazing around bothering others and geek reading a book and gets a paper cut

MARIA
Lightly shaking her hand due to paper cut sting
Ouch

Camera carries on panning until BIANCA the schools most popular and self obsessed girl is in the frame. She looks frustrated and wriggles until she leaves her seat.
Various shots of her leaving classroom and going to the toilet. She gets to the toilet heads straight to the sink and runs her fingers through her hair. She then looks in the mirror and sees a black figure of a person dressed in black behind her. She looks back and sees none their. She slams all of the cubicle doors to reassure her that none is there she goes back to the mirror. Washes her face.

Inside the detention room.

MARCUS
Where is BIANCA she’s been in those toilets fro how long!

BOB
You know girls always in that silly mirror

MARCUS
Putting his ball down on the table
I think someone should go check on her

BOB
Am not going anywhere and my girl over there (indicating MARIA)
Is too busy reading that rubbish. Guess that leaves you big guy (pointing at the Goth-JASON)

Jason looks around to make sure their talking to him and waits a while before leaving his seat. He leaves tucking his chair in a very aggressive manner.

Outside classroom, in the corridors.

JASON
(Under his breath)
Stupid idiots who do they think they are, they can’t tell me what to do, imbeciles

Jason carries on walking kicking a ball of paper around

Inside the toilets

BIANCA is washing her face and looks up as she does so she begins to cough and beings to throw up blood whilst seeing figure in the mirror.
BIANCA
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhg

She begins to stager out of the bathroom trying to hold on to walls leaving blood marks behind her.

Inside the detention room

BOB is looking at Marcus in a weird way as if he has something to say

BOB
So when’s the big game

MARCUS
January

BOB
Be sure not to break a leg or something or bore yourself to death in this shithole

Inside the corridors

BIANCA is still trying to get to the class room having trouble breathing. We see figure behind her watching

Inside the detention room

BOB carries on disturbing others

BOB
What you reading their?

MARIA looks at him and quickly turns her attention back to her book

BOB
Ok then not talking are you that’s fine but when you -

BIANCA slams the door open and burst into the room looking in very bad shape whilst Maria screams

MARRIA
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!

BIANCA
Help me please! Its him he did it, I saw him –
He did this-

BIANCA collapses unto he ground the rest of them run to her limp lifeless body scared and filled with terror

MARCUS
Oh shit someone get help do something

MARIA
What happened!?

MARCUS
How the hell should I know just do something!

BOB runs out of the classroom to find help and realises that no one is their. The corridors are dark and completely empty. MARIA and MARCUS shout out for help and also leave the room.

MARCUS
(In panic)
Where is everybody

Bob looks at them shaking his head in disbelief

BOB
There all gone there’s no one here.

MARCUS
Well don’t just stand their, you too tries open the doors.

Marcus rushes to the doors and desperately trying to open them with no success he shouts

MARCUS
Well come on then!

Maria and bob run to the doors and help him to try and open them

MARIA
There are 3 other doors on this building we could try

MARCUS
Ok lets bob lets go try those ones. You stay with her

Marcus and bob run across to the other side of the building and try their hardest to get the doors open.

BOB
This is stupid let’s just break these windows

Marcus runs back to the corridor where he left his basket ball and back to the door where bob is standing. He begins to aim and throws the ball with all his strength at the window. A crack appears

BOB
Oh yes!

Marcuse beings to aim again however this time the shutters of the window begin to come down from the outside of the doors making it impossible to leave

MARCUS
Oh shit, if these carry on were never leaving, run to the other ones quick

Bob and Marcus run to their other possible escapes and see that the doors are not only locked but have the shutters down from the inside. Same for all the windows.

BOB
Dam! What is this how the hell are we leaving this place.(shaky voice) I cant die in this pace I swear down, there is something fucking fishy going on her I am telling you now I cant die in this stupid-

MARCUS
Shut up. I don’t care do what you want but shut up I don’t know about you but am getting out of this place.

Inside the classroom.

Maria is sitting beside BIANCA’S body looking traumatized with tears streaming down her face. The boys walk in

MARIA
So

MARCUS
I will find a way

BOB
SO! WE ARE STUCK! We are not coming out and just like her we are going to die her in SCHOOL!

MARIA
What about the other doors-

BOB
Well they are locked too! Shutters and all. But I guess you smarty pants did not think that through did you!

MARCUS
I though I told you to shut up

The boys begin to argue and take their frustrations out on each other

BOB
And so what! DO you think you can tell me what to do boss me around I don’t think so you shut the fuck up and-

MARIA (in her frustration also shouts)
Be quiet both of you! Look at you. We are stuck I a room with a body and you’re arguing over this crap.

Marcus walks over to Bianca. He picks up her hand and shakes his head releasing a deep sight and dropping her hand back down.

MARCUS
She’s dead

MARIA screams with her hands over her mouth and goes to her seat. Bob stops speaking and just looks at the other two’s reaction, and then putting his head down.

Marcus walks around the room. The room is completely silent until Marcus bangs a desk

MARCUS
Right I want all you too to search this room from head to toe for something to help us get out of here. I will try doing the same or else it looks like were stuck in here.

They all rummage the classroom for some sort of key or helpful object. However everything is empty. They carry on Maria finds a big book (a diary).
She looks around at the two still looking around the room

MARIA
I found something
BOB
What? a book keep your reading to yourself we are trying to get out
MARCUS snatches the book and opens it reading the first page as he reads his faces changes and becomes all shambled.

MARIA
What’s wrong! What is it?

BOB
What’s in the book!

MARCUS
It’s written

MARIA
WHAT IS

MARCUS
Everything which has happened Bianca, us its been written.

In disbelieve Maria and bob take the book and read on.

BOB
Wow.
And he moves away from the book.

MARIA
Am turning the page

BOB
Are you sure you want to do that

Marcus looks and nods at her
MARIA reads the book in her head leaving the other two in suspense. She looks at them

MARIA
Were all going to die? She picks up the book again and reads the end they should do what they need to stay alive however I implore them to do the opposite

BOB
Fuck what does that even mean. Am not fuking dying here? What does that mean? Tell me! He shouts at Maria

MARIA
HEAD OWN
I don’t know.

BOB
But you know everything else don’t you!

MARIA
The book talks about our deaths, however they all occur outside this room.

BOB
So

MARCUS
So to try stay alive we have to remain in this room.
Well that wont be too hard were all here

They all look at each other and shout Jason’s name together

In another classroom upstairs

Jason is laying on the floor the camera moves up from his legs upwards, we think he is dead but he is sleeping with headphones on. He wakes up and looks around to see where he is he then gets up and opens the door, as he does this he sees the figure again.

Inside the detention room

BOB
I knew it I bet you this is all him. You saw his face I asked him to check on Bianca you saw I know you lot saw it him I can feel it, who knows where the fucker is now

Inside other class room upstairs

Jason is laying on the ground again the camera shows his legs upwards however this time he his slightly shaking laying in a pool of his own blood.
With his headphones on.

Inside the detention room.

Hours have gone by and Maria is sleeping bob is singing a song repeatedly and Marcus in sitting in front of the door quietly rocking himself trying to keep his eyes of Bianca’s body. He gets a flash back of him opening his locket and a note falling out reading ‘please report to room 362 for detention today at 3 o’clock’
Camera zooms into him reading and fades back to him detention room. As he rocks himself he looks outside the classroom door and begins to make a shiny metal like objects. Looks like a key. He looks around the room and sees Maria sleeping and bob still singing facing a wall starting to dose of. He slowly stands up and opens the door still looking behind him. Marcus is now outside. The sound of the door closing causes bob to turn around and see.

BOB
YOU LITTLE PRIK!

Bob runs and locks the door
Marcus runs back and begs him to open the door
A shadow runs behind him which they cannot see
Marcus open the door
Bob
So that’s your plan then we stay here together in the room together not outside together hmm
Marcus
Bob open this door now
Bob
No
Marcus
Bob open this fucking door n-
Marcus is hit on the head with a hammer his blood splatters on the door. Bob lets go of the handle and begins to shake and terror

prelim task

Preliminary Brief: Film and edit a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character. A couple of lines of dialogue must then exchange between characters & match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule should be demonstrated.

Main Task: The titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes (all video and audio material must be original, produced by candidates, with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source

Looking back on my prelim task I feel that there are m things which I have learnt many things from it which have helped me in m recent work. Our prelim task consisted of making a 30 second mini film of two people meeting up and having a conversation. I this we had many things to remember like the 180 degree rule and reaction shots. This was all very new to me. This gave me practice, and a small insight of the amount of planning involved in making a film. Over all I would say that, that task went rather well as I found the editing process of this very manageable. However my partner and I made the mistake of not installing the sound equipment, giving us no sound in our sequence. This was my biggest lesson learnt from that task. Although it is very obvious equipment check is extremely important. That mistake helped me to know how to deal with the production of my main task. I constantly checked the camera’s spirit level, made sure angles looked go d and that everything supposed to be in a frame was in the frame. This was done due to a previous mistake. I also learnt no to be afraid to make changes if something does not look right. For example in our main task we originally wanted a wide shot of the kids in the classroom, and a shot of a white board saying ‘silence when in ‘detention’. However when we reviewed our rushes, we saw that those shots did not work and needed to be taken out. As well as in postproduction we also made changes during the production. We originally wanted the geek to have a nose bleed during the pan, to be a bit symbolic of her being the reason for these deaths and having their blood on their hands. We went with that idea for ages but however on production we decided that it would make more sense if Bianca, had a nose bleed, this would give her an even better reason to leave the classroom.

The prelim brief and task was similar to the main one, but there differences still remain. I found that with the prelim task we had less planning to do as we were limited to a 30 second sequence. This made everything short and very easy to remember the time we took to shoot was very short as well, this put a small amount of pressure on us but it was enough. Regarding the story, I feel that we were more restricted. This is because it was to be about two people meeting and having a conversation. These people had to be shown walking to their meeting places individually before being seen together. In the main task there was much more discussions and more ideas involved. This was hard because for me it was with people had never worked with before, so we had so many different ideas to choose from. However we were still kind of restricted because our stories had to be based on a fairy tale or show a few themes from the selected fairy tale. The planning was very intense compared to the planning done for the prelim task, but because we had done this before I was prepared.

Main task

Organising ourselves was much harder as we had much more to do compared to our prelim task. We organised our self through lots of planning and meeting up together to get our ideas and concepts together, so they would be strong.
We arranged this by shooting schedules and storyboarding, this helped us not to waste time as everyone knew what they were doing, this prevented waste of time and needless complications. Regarding actor and character
We also allocated roles to each member in our group in advanced and carried out two rehearsals and therefore made running the shoot a lot easier. Everyone knew the role they had to play and this made it a lot more efficient. We used this method during filming of our film opening sequence and this really helped as it took a lot shorter to shoot than it could have. This is something which cannot be said d for our prelim task; although it was easier to carry out we had a lot more complications, probably because we were not as prepared. This is another ways that the prelim task has helped me learn and improve.
Prelim task:

The planning here was less stressful, as it was as mentioned before a very short sequence which we were producing.
Story boards were easy and I think we followed it pretty much to the T. everything was like in the story board. This is a difference to the process in our main task as during production we changed and added a few things. We had a few problems with our cast but we overcame that quiet easily. Because we didn’t have any rehearsals before shooting with our characters the directing was a bit harder than in our main task, however the script did not really involve too much so it was not too hard for our cast to understand. A big mistake we made in this was not setting up the sound equipment properly; the film came out good however we unfortunately lost our sound.
From making our prelim task to our main task I have learnt:
*the importance of planning as everything plays a big role in postproduction as well as production.
In our prelim task we did not add final changes to the original script which was given to our cast so sometimes we had to stop to remind cast of their lines. In this there were two people as cast. We were able to get one persons number but not the other, so when it was our time to film that person did not show up and we were not able to contact her so we had to get a replacement.
* I have learned from my mistakes, and made sure equipment was set up proper by having our director do at least 2 sound test before we started filming.
In the prelim task my partner received no sound in our sequence, as the sound equipment was not installed properly. Another problem we faced was lack of time as we had to our filming on the next day as we spent too much time filming for one group. So time was another thing which I learnt to control in order to get everything done. In our prelim task another problem we faced was people walking in our shots and making too much noise. So for my main task this was an issue that we prepared for during planning. We looked at the school time table and decided to film during lesson and take 10 minute breaks between classroom changes to make sure no one would get into our shots.
* have learned more variety in my shots. In my prelim task everything was very basic as we mostly focused on reaction shots. In our main task however we had to include many more shots for the film to have a certain effect on our audience.

Overall I have mainly learnt the importance of planning. I now know that everything is there for a reason. A story board being very important to the planning process as it allows you to know your shots and is basically your film on paper. A shooting schedule helps you plan out your shooting times helping you to be organised, as well as your cast. This helped us a lot as we had a lot of people involved in our sequence. Continuity sheets area also helpful but I think, most helpful when making a long sequence. It helped use know weather a take was good or bad but regarding costume our cast constantly stayed in the same clothes so that was not really a problem to fill out. All this planning helped us to make everything the way we intended it to be.
